This is not the DHD we left. All new board, partly new story. This doesn't mean that nothing that happened on the old board applies. Rather, consider this a partial reboot. Some characters won't be returning, some history has been discarded to make that narratively clean.
What does that mean for us as players? It means that you shouldn't assume that a relationship that existed before is the same now. It means that the major events of the old DHD (Parkers Crossroads, Demonpalooza, etc.) didn't happen, and if you're reviving a character you need to adjust their history to reflect that.
Most of all what it means is that we all need to talk to one another before assuming that something that was true on the old board is true now. We're all nice people, we all know how to reach one another. Just hit a guy up on IM and ask 'so are X and Y still going to be a couple?' or PM whoever it is to check whether you want to keep a part of a shared backstory.
It's a little confusing, yes. But I have faith in us, we're all smart people. And admit it, the idea of a clean (or mostly clean) slate is a little bit exciting.
Go forth and tell a whole new story, my loves. This one's just beginning.
