Ed's tall and gangly, he might bulk up if he ever exercised but he doesn't believe it. There's a lot of true things that Ed doesn't believe about himself, like the fact that he'd not actually ugly. He's got a small, expressive mouth and narrow eyes that actually give him a focused, intense look that some girls could really get into, and he's finally grown into the beard he's been wearing since he was seventeen. But a person would have to be watching awfully closely to see past the nerd shirts and bumbling and frankly nobody has.

It's not easy being the smart kid in a small town, and Ed surrendered to it young. Unlike his best friend Harry who cherished hopes all through high school, Ed resigned himself early to a life of awkwardness, geek culture, and internet romance. He's given himself over totally to nerdiness, which is actually kind of a shame because he doesn't even realize that he's outgrown his awkwardness and could be kind of handsome and even socially acceptable if he ever let himself be.
Instead he sticks with the Ghostfacers, with all the good and bad that entails. Gawky and earnest, the neurotic straight man to Harry's shrill fumbling, Ed is happy with his work and his life. If he ever learned that there was more out there available to him his contentment might vanish but for now he enjoys his life.

[app]Overall History:[/app]
Look, it's just a life, okay? Appleton, Wisconsin isn't the most interesting place. He grew up in a ranch-style house on a cul-de-sac, his parents adopted Maggie when he was five. He was scrawny and fine with that until he was about eleven. Then he was scrawny and miserable about it until he was fourteen. Then he met his best friend Harry at Computer Camp and it was back to being fine with it because at least he had one friend he could trust.
College was never in the cards. The money just wasn't there, and the very idea of a hundred thousand dollars in student loans gave him panic attacks. Instead he got a job at a video store and he and Harry kept right on hanging out, chatting online, and pursuing their pet projects. Hellhound's Lair was one of their enthusiasms, the truth is that if the Winchesters had never come to town and stirred up that tulpa, chances are they would have given up on paranormal research after a couple more months and moved on to something else.
But once they knew the truth, they had to keep chasing. Even once that TV show fell through they kept looking, kept digging. And now that they know, now that they've been close enough to touch it, now that Corbett pas paid the ultimate price, the Ghostfacers will never die!

Hissing static, then a blink of blackness, then a closeup of Ed's face, looking pale under the short beard although that might have been the bright flare of the light mounted on the camera. The tight shot showed that there were other people moving around behind him, but they were blurry and out of focus. Ed squinted behind his glasses, trying to look Very Serious as he said, "This is Ed Zeddmore, leader of the Ghostfacers, and this mission has taken a dark and dangerous turn. When we came out here for me and Maggie's Aunt Stephanie's wedding, we had no idea that we would find ourselves embroiled in apocalyptic danger."
The shot pulled back a little, giving a better view of the vinyl-upholstered booth where they were sitting, the bright yellow and red menus were still standing in the rack at the end of the table. "Nine hours ago, the Ghostfacers were traveling through the small town of Parkers Crossroads Tennessee. Incredibly, our original plans weren't to go through this town at all, but there was a...miscalculation about our route."
"You mean Harry got us lost," a girl's voice called from off screen. "Because he can't read a map."
Ed's head turned and he hissed, "Maggie, let it go already." It was too late, though, as the microphone was laready picking up Harry's long, drawn-out explanation of how it wasn't his fault that they'd somehow lost I-40. His main point seemed to be that Christian's van had bad visibility and that's why he didn't realize that he'd taken the wrong lane at an interchange and then driven a hundred and twenty miles due south on I-55.
Trying to talk over the top of that, Ed went back to giving the camera a Very Serious look. "The inhabitants of this small town appear to have been infected by some form of zombie plague. We are still investigating whether they are Day of the Dead zombies, Land of the Dead zombies, or Zombieland zombies, as our entire strategy hinges on knowing what we're up against. In the meantime, we have taken refuge in this restaurant--" he gestured around him and the camera panned out, showing the Denny's, the other Ghostfacers, and several other blurred figures in the background, "while we plan out our attack. This humble Denny's is now the Eagle's Nest, Ground Zero, Ghostfacer's Central. It is from here that we will rid the world of this horrible plague of....horribleness." A pause that stretched out long enough to be awkward and then, "Just turn it off, Spruce."
Static. Blackness. A few assorted thumping sounds and the distant echo of Harry and Maggie bickering before Spruce remembered to turn off the audio recording.
