Maire looks eerie and most people can't put a finger on why. Or if they can, the only thing they can think to list is those purple eyes, too vivid and deep to be anything natural. The immediate assumption is contact lenses. In fact Maire deliberately leaves them unglamored because she figured out a long, long, long time ago that people notice an other-ness about her and the eyes give them an excuse they can believe in.
She dyes her hair dark, but the gold gleams through the chemical stains and gives it a burnished-bronze glow in certain lights. Her eyes and mouth both seem not exactly too large, but too intense, too emphatic to be quite real. Those beestung lips that are like what women think they'll get when they go in for collagen injections but never do, drowned-violet eyes that seem to (because they actually do) occasionally glow from within with lavender light. She's built tall and long-limbed, but she has at least a few curves to work with.

[app]Strengths:[/app]
- Has been walking among the sons of Mil for three thousand years. She understands a thing or two about human nature.
- Almost impossible to kill, and very few people or even angels or demons actually know how it's done. (OOC: PM me if you want to know how it's done.)
- Faster, stronger, and more precise than humans in motion.
- Possesses the fae magic of glamor, as well as a profound connection to the light of the sun which allows her to, under certain circumstances, channel the sun's light and power.
- Has extensive contacts and alliances with monsters, demons and angels all over the earth.
[app]Weaknesses:[/app]
- Still not a human, and some people can sense the difference.
- Vulnerable to cold iron and certain salts and herbs
- Doesn't do well being inside for long periods of time.
- Suffers from the tinneas aonraithe, the sickness that comes from denying a fae creature's touch-need, and pursues short-term sexual relationships to fend that off.
- She's a long, long way from the nearest sithen.
[app]Fears:[/app]
- That someday she'll get tired of wandering and won't be able to settle down.
- The truth about the monsters getting out.
[app]Secrets:[/app]
- Few, if any, living creatures realize that when she was known as Áine she was worshipped as the goddess of sun and bright months.
- She knows the locations of every sithen in the world, knowledge which would be of dangerous interest to any number of factions.
- She's birthed a few children through the centuries, and keeps track of the lines until the last of the fae blood is so diluted that she knows it won't cause any more trouble.
[app]Habits and Quirks:[/app]
- Smokes cigarettes at least partly as an excuse to go outside often. The weed she smokes for fun.
- Always drives red cars. Before that, red carriages. Before that, roan mares.
- Reads a lot of fiction, especially YA novels.
[app]Overall Personality:[/app]
The very first thing that comes across is that profound, calm confidence. She's only too awaare of how hard it is to kill her, and she's seen so much over so many years that she does't really get surprised any more. And so she steps through the world as though she's untouchable, and that conveys itself to others. Some people are drawn to it, some people think she's stuck-up and bitchy, but either way it's hard not to notice.
Maire has been on the earth long enough to learn how to blend, and though the occasional person still finds her eerie or offputting because they somehow sense her true nature, generally she moves through the world easily enough. She has a special liking for 'low company', an affection for criminals, street people, vagabonds, and hookers. No real reason except maybe that it's time, she feels she's investigated all the possibilities of the upper crust of society, at least for a century or two. Variety is the key to avoiding boredom.
[app]Family:[/app]
- None that know her, not any more.
[app]Overall History:[/app]
The Tuatha Dé Danann tell themselves that they are the children of Nemed. This, Maire remembers, is true. But Nemed was a son of Lilith, not the pure creation later generations claimed. Those like Maire, the first of Danu's children, remember the old stories, the real stories, and though what remains of her cousins might play along with the Disney-fied version of history, Maire has never felt inclined.
When the Milesians took the earth and drove her people into the hills, Maire (who was someone quite different then) was one of the only of her kin to realise that these short-lived men would forget them within a handful of generations. It was less than a century before she could walk among them again, and though it stung a little to see her image already being replaced with newer goddesses, she was free and what else mattered?
At first she meant to only wander for a few years. But she hasn't gotten bored yet. Thirty centuries and she's still not bored, not in any real way. She visits the sithens now and then, but nothing changes there and everything changes here and she ends up coming topside again. One forgotten goddess among the sons of Mil, always looking for the next good time.
