Chuck Shurley was a writer and Prophet of the Lord, who published numerous novels detailing the lives of Sam and Dean Winchester. He was inspired to write by visions he couldn't control-- extremely unpleasant visions that left him with terrible headaches, leading him to drink. The series itself had only had mild success, and he lost his publisher after he wrote that Dean Winchester went to Hell, but it had a rabid following who keep the series alive in chat rooms and arranged conventions. Before meeting them, he was unaware that Sam and Dean were real until they sought him out; his books contain details that even Sam and Dean don't know.
Due to his status as a prophet, he is protected personally by an archangel, who is tasked with defending him from any possible threat.
After completing the final chapter in the story of the Winchester brothers' quest to avert the Apocalypse, Chuck smiles and vanishes- this being related to his being a vessel for God himself. Although holding of more power than anything in the entire Universe, he is very humble, and rarely ever expresses himself or his powers.

[app]Overall Personality:[/app]
Chuck is generally kind, though seemingly confused or miserable most of the time. He's intelligent, though a little cowardly. He is not a fan of being dragged into other peoples affairs, and would like nothing more than to sit back and continue to read, write and listen to music. He's somewhat in favor of the Winchesters, as they have actually been kinder to him than most. He drinks almost daily, and is a fan of female companionship.
As God, he prefers to stay in the background. Over time, he has grown tired of the fighting, of death. Feeling guilty over the corruption of his son, Lucifer, God stole away to earth and into the body of Chuck Shurley. Now, all he wishes to do is eat and drink and write, alone, where he feels he can harm nobody ever again.

[app]Overall History:[/app]
God, having left Heaven, stole the guise of the writer and prophet Chuck, using him as him vessel. He writes, and lives, in a home that is completely unassuming. Rarely interfering in other peoples lives, he prefers to sit on the sidelines, only speaking to his Gardener up in heaven, and rarely. On earth, he lives and breathes his writing, and his drinks. He doesn't much care for the problems of the world, making it sound as though he is simply slacking off, when in fact he just wants the fostering of free will.
After the events which led to his two sons, Lucifer and Micheal being thrown into satans cage, Chuck still continues to live in the same place, though he has begun to take in more through his travels. His tendrils of thought and will sinking back into the world. He feels sadness over the loss of those two, but is pleased with the choices the human race has begun to make. Devoting themselves to free will, family, love. He may choose to, someday soon, step back into the fray, although behind the scenes and likely off the beaten path.

Chuck's fingers found the cool surface of his scotch glass, the salty and rather sharp flavor of the drink pouring in over his taste buds like a splash of color. The night wore on, light shining in through the curtains from the street lamp down by the curb. Smoke drifted from the end of his cigarette, which rested contentedly in the ashtray which sat on an unfolded newspaper. The computer screen, bright and blank, sat in front of him, glaring like a scorned ex wife. He stared back, letting out a little sigh as he set down the glass and rested his fingers on the keyboard. Nothing. He had no reason to stall in the beginning of his new series, but in truth, he just didn't have it in him. Not the cool non-sequitor or the smarmy humor- he just didn't want to write. Beginnings were the easiest thing in a story, and yet he sat, boxers and a t-shirt being more than enough to cover his rather small frame.
