[zee]Her shoulders twitched and without a second's thought she snapped out, "We don't need charity. Stick to saving the puppies and rebuilding historic lighthouses. We do what needs doing when nobody else even understands it has to be done." She wasn't even pissed, it was just an automatic reaction. As proved when a moment later she developed a sly smile and added, "Plus? Most hunters are thieves on some level or another. That account would be cleared out the moment it was filled."
"I don't know if the entire bible is true. There are angels and there are demons. And it'll be no damn surprise that the demons are way more active here on earth. About Moses and an ark and burning bushes, I have no information."
Again her fingertips reached to touch the center console where her cigarettes should be, she ate an apple slice instead. "Besides demons there are a whole lot of monsters. Ghosts, vampires, shapeshifters. Ghoulies and ghasties and long-leggedy beasties, any one of which could eat you in a bite. A lot of hunters, most of them, even, concentrate on those. Because demons are fucking horrible and they'll do way worse than kill you if you lose the fight. A handful of us end up sucked in to the angels and demons thing whether we want to be or not. That, or we just get good and pissed and go do what needs doing."[/zee]

[will]He raised his hands in submission. “Alright, I won’t do anything.” He wasn’t in the least bit offended, just amused at the thought of a magically-emptying bank account. “Looking at it from that perspective, it’s not such a great idea.” Will just needed something to work on and he’d have to figure something else out. This was exactly why he didn’t take vacations that often, he was project-person. If he didn’t have something to do, he’d find something to do. It was a habit. “On another note. I don’t rebuild lighthouses and puppies already have a million heroes. I actually try to prevent puppies.”
Will played with one of his French fries while he thought. “Sounds like a lot of fun. So, demons are nastier than most of the beasties? The more I learn, the more your world frightens me.” He wasn’t too big of a man to admit that he was, honestly, afraid. This was out of his element.[/will]

[zee]"Demons are the nastiest thing there are. There's no bad badder than them, only less powerful and more powerful demons." Her voice was bleak as she spoke, but she'd had enough years to wear some of the pain out of the topic. At least to learn to hide it.
She cleared her throat. "Anyway, like I said, a lot of sane hunters avoid demons and angels entirely. There nothing but trouble, and there's plenty of other monsters that the world's made better by getting rid of them. But yes, the world I live in is terrifying. And if you have the option of not being in it? Don't. Norah and them can hook you up with the right people to get you back to your real life, maybe, and if you're smart you'll take the chance while you've got it. Nobody wants to be in my world. Including me."[/zee]

[will]Her advice was sound. Going back to his 'real' life would be nice, but he was sure it wouldn't be the same. He would simply have to take as much knowledge with him as possible. "Then I will have to learn all I can to survive. Because, when and if I do get a chance to go back, I'd like to be able to protect the people important to me."
Will watched her contemplatively. "Are you okay for the rest of the drive?" It was her car and he wasn't going to offer to take over unless she looked ready to keel over. She had that kind of vibe and he didn't want to overstep anymore boundaries than he already had. "Will you be sticking around when we find Lorica?"[/will]

[zee]"I'm fine driving. I'm used to going sixteen, twenty hours at a time sometimes. And no, I'm basically just dropping you off to them and taking off once you're good. I've got to figure out what the hell happened back there and keep it from happening again. That and," a shrug, she wouldn't look anywhere near him, "I've still got to get this fetus situation dealt with."
She was going to have to go to Idaho. She just didn't see any way around it. At absolute best she'd have to call them but not visit, but at some level Zee knew that wasn't going to work. Her parents were going to need to see her, and at some level she knew she owed them that.[/zee]

[will]He nodded. He had expected as much. "Alright. Can I at least get your number before you go? I'd like to keep in touch, if you don't mind." Will had to resist urging her to get in contact with the father. He really felt it was necessary and the fact that it was bugging him was unusual. Clearing his throat and shaking such thoughts from his head, he turned back to fiddling with his brand new tablet. Once he was in a fairly stationary place, he'd pull out the laptop and get it set up to his preferences.[/will]

[zee]"That's fine." She rattled off her number for him, then three different email addresses. "I check all of them, but if whatever it is is illegal, send it to the proxymail account, and never send the same message to more than one account."
After which she took a bite of her sandwich and then started filling Will in on a more comprehensive and logical (if such a thing is even possible) overview of the supernatural world, including how to spot various kinds of monsters and how to get away from them. She wasn't trying to teach him how to hunt, only how to survive, and so most of her strategies had everything to do with getting the hell clear and disappearing. It was, she promised him, a winning strategy for people who were less crazy than her.[/zee]
